We work hard to ensure that we find the very best ingredients for our meals. We source these ingredients from a number of trusted partners, all of which uphold high-quality control standards.

Do you use all organic ingredients?

We use organic ingredients as often as possible, but organic is just one of many characteristics we use to evaluate the food and ingredients we purchase. We aim to obtain the highest quality food from as close to us as possible by supporting local vendors. Our customers take comfort in knowing that we only use ingredients that we feel strongly about and have researched extensively.

Do you offer vegetarian meals?

Yes we do. We have planty options for vegetarians and vegans.

Are your meals designed to be low fat?

Our meals are generally high in protein and healthy fats. Fat in food does not necessarily equal fat on our bodies (thankfully!) That’s because there are different kinds of fats, both good and bad. We follow a paleo-inspired diet that utilizes healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats like oilve oil for numerous health benefits. We avoid the scary, detrimental types of fat pizza.
There is a myth that dietary fat, specifically saturated fat, correlates to disease and obesity. Again, it’s not that simple. This is outdated nutrition advice and is far from the truth. In fact, there are significant dangers associated with not eating enough fat, such as increased cholesterol and heart disease, depression, and poor vitamin absorption. Healthy fats provide energy while improving body composition, brain function, bone strength, healthy skin, and actually aid in fat loss.

Are your meals designed to be low in sodium?

At OliveKebab.ca, sea salt and Himalayan salt are the main sources of our sodium content, and we use it freely. We endorse moderate sodium from the right sources. Plus, our meals help wean you off the higher average intake of sodium you might be getting from unhealthy processed foods, fast foods and other convenient food alternatives. You will find that our meals vary in sodium; while in some dishes we use sea salt more liberally, we offer lower sodium options as well.
Unlike table salt, sea salt is minimally processed and, therefore, retains its natural elements. Its minerals include magnesium (for cell and brain function), calcium (strong bones), potassium, iron, zinc, and iodine (healthy thyroid). Sea salt also helps keep the electrolytes in your body firing (for a healthy heart rate) and helps keep you hydrated.

Are your meals free of GMOs?

Our meals are not certified non-GMO. We aim to obtain the highest quality food and source GMO-free ingredients whenever possible. Our customers take comfort in knowing that we only use ingredients from partners we trust and have researched extensively.

Are your meals safe for people with diabetes?

We don’t have meals that are specifically made for diabetics, but we have quite a few customers that order from us who are diabetic. This is mainly because we do not use any refined sugars, and focus on low-glycemic carb meals (or simply low-carb meals). We always recommend that anyone with a pre-existing medical condition speak to their doctor before enjoying our meals to be sure you would be getting the proper nutrition for your dietary needs.

I have a food allergy. Is OliveKebab for me?

All of our meals are free of gluten, dairy, soy, corn, preservatives, GMOs, artificial sweeteners, and sugar.
Most of our snacks contain nuts, so if you have a nut allergy, we recommend that you don’t order the snacks. Rarely do we include nuts in our meals, but when we do, we include it in the menu description.

How big are the portions?

Every meal is a single serving and comes with 5–6 oz. of protein and two 3-4 oz. of cooked sides or accouterments. This is plenty of food for almost all of our clients. That being said, we do have the option for larger portion sizes for those living a very intense training regimen. The upgrade will double your protein in each serving or add an additional side for each meal.

Since we don’t specifically gear our meals towards a certain calorie count, the caloric content of each meal varies.
Generally speaking, though, the vast majority of our meals are between 400-600 calories, with a few being under 400 calories and a few being over 600 calories.
Having said that, while eating OliveKebab.ca, we encourage customers not to worry so much about calories. Trust your body to tell you when you’re full and how much food you need. You’ll be amazed at how effective your body is at self-regulating itself when you eat the right foods in the proper portions. We like to think that you don’t have to eat less, you just have to eat right!

Are your meals designed to be low in sodium?

At OliveKebab.ca, sea salt is the main source of our sodium content, and we use it freely. We endorse moderate sodium from the right sources. Plus, our meals help wean you off the higher average intake of sodium you might be getting from unhealthy processed foods, take-out, fast foods and other convenient food alternatives.
Can I freeze my meals?

Our meals are designed to be refrigerated to preserve their freshness, but we understand that life happens and you are not always able to eat them right away. Therefore, if freezing is necessary, you can indeed freeze the food, since our meals tend to freeze very, very well! If you go the freezing route, please follow the heating instructions provided below. Keep in mind that some items freeze better than others (egg dishes and fish dishes have been known to not thaw and reheat as well as other items).
To heat meals from a frozen state:
Do not defrost.
Microwave for 1 min from the frozen state.
Follow original heating instructions provided.

How do I heat up my meals?

Our meals are designed to be heated in the microwave since they already arrive fully cooked. You will notice instructions on each meal container regarding how long to heat the food. Slit the plastic on the top to release steam during the microwaving process and microwave for about 2 minutes. Keep in mind, though, that microwaves, unlike people, are NOT created equal, so some may require shorter or longer heating time than others. You know your microwave best, so you may want to try out your first meal assuming an average cooking time (a little under 2 minutes) and then adding to that time as you see fit.

Can I heat my meals in an oven?

Our meals are designed to be heated in the microwave since they already arrive fully cooked. If you don’t have a microwave or would rather not use one, however, you can certainly use an oven or a range! Just be aware that you will have to get a few pots and pans dirty since you cannot use our containers in an oven or on a range. Please also note that heating in an oven or a pot will require you to watch the item closely to see when it has reached your desired temperature.
Tips:
Place the item in an oven-safe dish and cover the top in tin foil. Heat the oven to 325 degrees (300 if you’re using a convection oven).
Breakfast: heat for 4 minutes, stir once, and place back in oven for 2 minutes
Lunch: heat for 8 minutes, stir once, place back in the oven for 2 minutes
Dinner: heat for 8 minutes, stir once, place back in the oven for 2 minutes
Remember, you are not cooking the meal, just heating it – so, once the item is hot it is ready to eat!

What happens if there is a problem with my meal/s?

All our meals have a “use by” date on the packaging which gives you the day by which you should ideally eat the meal to ensure the best food quality and freshness. This is typically about 4-5 days after your meals are delivered, including the day of delivery itself. Because we don’t use artificial/chemical preservatives, the meals have a shorter refrigerated shelf life than say, commercial frozen dinners, etc. (just like if you were to store home-cooked food in the refrigerator).
Although our meals are not intended to be frozen, it is indeed possible to freeze the meals if you absolutely are unable to consume them before the “use by” date. Our meals tend to freeze very well and can be heated up from their frozen state by adding an extra minute of microwave time!
